Full Stack Engineer. Backend by Obsession
I'm Chiemezuo — a full-stack engineer who lives mostly on the backend (Python/Django, Node.js, Bun, and yes, occasionally Java when Spring Boot calls).
▎ Three-plus years shipping production systems in FinTech and EdTech, two-time Google Summer of Code fellow on Wagtail CMS, and a firm believer that good code and a good joke should both land on the first try.
▎ If you need someone to build the thing, fix the thing, or explain — with minimal condescension — why the thing broke, that's me.
What I actually do
▎ Backend systems that don't fall over: Python/Django, Node.js, Bun, Java/Spring Boot, REST APIs, and the PostgreSQL/Redis/MongoDB that keeps them honest.
▎ I ship React/TypeScript frontends when the backend needs a face, wire up Docker and CI/CD so deploys aren't a personality test, and I've spent enough time in AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean, Heroku, and Railway to have opinions about all of them.
▎ Bonus skill: accessibility and testing (PyTest, Playwright, Jest, Axe-core). I'll notice if your app is unusable with a screen reader before your users have to tell you.
What to call me for
▎ Full-stack builds from zero to production. API design and architecture decisions that don't need a rewrite in six months. Performance and database work.
▎ I once halved page-load times by refusing to let an ORM make bad decisions unsupervised. Accessibility audits, because "it works on my machine" isn't a compliance strategy. And if you need someone who can talk to Django core maintainers, GSoC mentors, and a confused stakeholder in the same afternoon, I've had the practice.
What I'm currently up to
▎ Building the core platform at Edustipend — a Nigerian EdTech non-profit — where I've taken an application system from zero to 1,300+ monthly applicants and built the payment infrastructure behind their donor transparency dashboard. Also still deep in Wagtail CMS open source (the same CMS running this very site — no pressure), following up two GSoC fellowships with ongoing contributions to accessibility and security. And soon: YouTube videos and a podcast-shaped thing, because apparently writing wasn't enough of a way to overshare about code.
What I write about
▎ Backend architecture decisions and the tradeoffs nobody puts in the tutorial. Open source — what it's actually like contributing to a CMS used by Google, NASA, and the NHS. Accessibility, because it's the most underrated skill in the industry. And the occasional post-mortem on something I broke, because pretending everything always works is how you end up trusting me less, not more.
